I had a quick five minute catch-up with a reservist friend today. After retiring from the Navy, she and her husband opened a cake and handmade candy shoppe in Ghent/Larchmont. This is their last month (after 12 years) of doing that because her father is aging in Florida and she does not want to be tied to the shoppe every day.
I went to pick up the cake for tomorrow's baby shower; Lisa helped me get it to my car on a nearby residential street.
We did not directly touch on spiritual things, though I think we have before in the reserves. We have each other on social media, too. But, oh how my heart yearned for her and her family to know Christ as I saw how we have aged over the years. The last time I saw her, I was 51; I am about to turn 65.
Eternity is in our hearts. We cannot escape it because Christ put it there. Every person we see is an everlasting soul. Jesus reached out because He loves. I keep that in mind. I don't beat myself up that every conversation does not turn to Christ, but remember to use my time and opportunities wisely. As we love others, we want them to be with Jesus and us in eternity.
I agree I think I’ve missed several opportunities with individuals that I may never see again. 😕
