I wanted to share a recent online discussion with you which happened to be hosted on a government server. This is to show you the huge cultural shifts that have taken place in our country these last ten years. I have told you we are well-trained in social media use at my job. I have to wonder about some other government employees because . . . These conversations held in government chatrooms could easily become part of the Congressional Record if someone were ever to investigate them. Everyone has to use their real name on there.
The chatrooms are supposed to be for mission related areas only, but there are a few off-topic ones like bicycle enthusiasts, sign language, Civil War buffs, etc. So a Christian created a daily Scripture chatroom about a month ago. He and I had privately wondered how long it would go without being trolled. The answer was just less than a month.
He made the mistake yesterday of posting RIP to Pat Robertson. I stayed completely out of the ensuing melee because Pat had spoken against the LGBTQ movement and he died during Pride Month. How dare he, right (sarcasm)?
But then people went back to an earlier post from Proverbs 31 and a woman asked how someone had the nerve to post about a heteronormative wife during Pride Month. She took it as a personal affront. Wow, I had read the passage and even made some (always positive) comments on it. I was astonished that someone who does not believe the Word would come onto a site designated for Christians to see whether the Scriptures were appropriate for Pride Month. As I had been reading the passage, Pride Month never even crossed my mind.
It got quite disturbing after that with the statement that people in a Scripture chatroom were proselytizing others against their will, etc.
I don't hate anyone there--they need Jesus. I pray for them.
I just wanted those of you who work for the church, school, etc. to see that those of us in a secular setting have many, many divine intersections every day! Pray for wisdom for us, please, as it is not always easy to see in advance how some things will blow up and others might actually help someone to see the Lord!
Praying …
Understanding the battle is real.
I have to fight destructive sarcasm so much sometimes. My first thought for the “heteronormative” discussion was to ask the woman for a list of Bible passages we should not read during Pride Month. I am very glad I did not do that.
