Yesterday on a podcast while I was driving I heard a preacher talking about how Postmodernism is different. Twenty years ago, non-Christians who were considering Christianity would say "But is it true?" Now they say, "But does it work?"
Problem with that being that Christianity works, but in God's way, not ours. So a new believer today goes happily along until a challenge or interpersonal conflict arises then, instead of realizing God is using that to grow her or the church or both, she goes away. She assumes Christianity does not work after all.
Knowing this can help us encourage young believers the way they need to be encouraged.
By the way, I do not usually use the names of preachers on podcasts because I do not want to create any diversion from the message or any controversy, but this one needs prayer right now. He is Tim Keller, longtime pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City. He just entered hospice yesterday for cancer and will be seeing Jesus in a few days. His wife's name is Kathy.
Dr. Keller died today. There are also three adult sons involved. And seven grandchildren. I listened to one of his podcasts on not being afraid in painful situations as I drove home tonight, knowing he was already with the Lord!!!
