Many of you may do what I do the morning after a sermon. Regardless of which other Bible book I am currently studying, I try to go to the chapter that was featured in the sermon and reread it, reviewing any notes I took.
I think I am ADD enough (in today's world, who isn't?, ha ha!) to never even begin to scratch the surface of a passage until I have been over it 2-3 times. It helps to have Pastor's notes to guide study but if I don't go back, his efforts can be lost on me (and so can my efforts at studying a book on my own. Review is my best friend!).
Last night Pastor preached on Colossians 1, reminding us that Paul probably never visited Colosse and therefore did not know everyone there. Yet Paul affirms them for the fruit they are bearing and says he prays for them constantly. We were reminded of the value of praying for Christians we don't even know around the world!
Then Pastor finished with the pre-eminence of our Great Prince. I remember Dr. Yoho teaching (a few times, so I remember it!) the four Great 1's (John 1, Colossians 1, Hebrews 1, and Revelation 1) that together give us the most powerful portrait of the Christ we worship! We got that portrait last night! Glory!
Thanks Mary!
