My USAF work team works seven days a week, ten hours a day. It is divided in half so each group works one 50 hour week, then one 20 hour week. If a crisis comes up, we can change that.
As a contractor, I work 40 hours a week, usually 5:00-1:00 PM Mon-Fri.
This week has offered so many chances for bearing witness to Christ in a low pressure way. I usually just say, "As a believer in Jesus, I look at that like this . . ." As long as I am not perceived as being coercive, being myself as a believer seems to be fine, so far.
In one very poignant conversation, a sergeant I have been getting to know since late last year (even before I joined this work team) told me how he was in Germany during the fall of Afghanistan three years ago. They were processing the refugees who were trying to come to the U.S. I think we all can say, without getting political, that that exit was botched, with each party blaming the other for what happened. So my coworker was helping with the babies whose parents had dropped them over the airport fence rather than have them live under the Taliban, as well as thousands of other highly traumatized people. There was often not enough food and there were never enough doctors (so watching Israel and Gaza is super hard on his PTSD). Nevertheless, they did the best they could do to protect mostly very vulnerable people.
Now he and his Navy wife are wanting to start a family and that is very hard after he saw the terrible things that had happened to some babies and little kids in Afghanistan. Let's just say he is going to be the most protective daddy ever.
In our conversation, I did have to stop him once and ask whether he was suicidal. No. He has gotten help and has overcome alcoholism; he needs the Lord.
I think they live in Norfolk. I won't use a name but please pray for this couple with me. I would like to get them to church.
So many very nice people just do not know Jesus.
