Trina Miller (Rebecca's mom) who is not on here just received a letter that said she is not eligible for Medicare because she did not work outside of the home after her Army enlistment. I have never heard of such a thing. Could anyone, maybe someone who has always been a stay at home mom, shed any light on this? Trina thought she would qualify through her husband's contributions.
PRAYER REQUESTS
Probably most of us have watched with feelings alternating between tears and horror this week as Gaziantep, Turkey and the nearby border with Syria have been excavated, with the death toll from Monday's earthquake at 20,000 and rising.
I looked up our region of Kempsville and found it has about 80,000 residents. This would be like losing 1/4 of them in one event.
Gaziantep itself has about 2 million people, so is much like our overall metro area.
It is near the ancient city of Cilicia, which we know from Paul's journeys, and at one time was known as Antioch, but Google says not one of the Antiochs of Paul's missionary journeys, so I will take their word for it! :-)
There have been dozens of people applying to adopt baby Aya, who was dug from the rubble with her umbilical cord still attached. The new mama did not survive the quake.
As we pray, Pastor, is there one of our organizations going over to help? You may have mentioned this last night but we did not have the television in the nursery turned up loud enough to hear every individual prayer request. :-)

Everyone, I decided to Google this for Trina and see what I could find, since both Mark and Rebecca work for the seminary and they are a dear brother and sisters in Christ. Noel can give her additional help after April 15–right now his clients are calling day and night to get their yearly contributions in before the deadline.
Here is what I found:
Trina, I believe I found it. You are older than Mark, right? So when Mark qualifies for Social Security, you will qualify through his work.
However, and this is major, you *still* must sign up for Medicare three months before to three months after your 65th birthday. There is a penalty if you do not. So keep pushing for them to review this again.
There was a letter to a woman in your situation that misinformed her because the Social Security office got things wrong. Medicare will know you do not have to wait till Mark turns 65.
Noel is busy with clients’ financial portfolios till April 15 (everyone making their annual contributions) but you can call him after that because he regularly encounters government programs while helping his clients. I am just helping a friend! 🙂

Medicare is available to veterans over the age of 65 or under 65 if they have certain disabilities. You'll automatically be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B if you receive Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) benefits for at least four months before your 65th birthday. I don’t know if this is any help either.
Should she ask the VA?
