Trina Miller (Rebecca's mom) who is not on here just received a letter that said she is not eligible for Medicare because she did not work outside of the home after her Army enlistment. I have never heard of such a thing. Could anyone, maybe someone who has always been a stay at home mom, shed any light on this? Trina thought she would qualify through her husband's contributions.

Everyone, I decided to Google this for Trina and see what I could find, since both Mark and Rebecca work for the seminary and they are a dear brother and sisters in Christ. Noel can give her additional help after April 15–right now his clients are calling day and night to get their yearly contributions in before the deadline.
Here is what I found:
Trina, I believe I found it. You are older than Mark, right? So when Mark qualifies for Social Security, you will qualify through his work.
However, and this is major, you *still* must sign up for Medicare three months before to three months after your 65th birthday. There is a penalty if you do not. So keep pushing for them to review this again.
There was a letter to a woman in your situation that misinformed her because the Social Security office got things wrong. Medicare will know you do not have to wait till Mark turns 65.
Noel is busy with clients’ financial portfolios till April 15 (everyone making their annual contributions) but you can call him after that because he regularly encounters government programs while helping his clients. I am just helping a friend! 🙂

Medicare is available to veterans over the age of 65 or under 65 if they have certain disabilities. You'll automatically be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B if you receive Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) benefits for at least four months before your 65th birthday. I don’t know if this is any help either.
Should she ask the VA?
