So on the way home I was hoping to stay on the interstate/bypass the entire way to 32.  You know using midtown tunnel you get on it almost immediately. Figured the driving would be smoother.  But the GPS which I always use to help with traffic issues was routing me thru downtown Suffolk because 58/460 out by 460 exit and Turlington road bypass exit was all backed up orange and red on the map.  This little voice told me to go anyways instead of down town.  Even as I am driving past the 460 exit to Petersburg the map is showing orange but it is clear sailing. Then I get to the bypass to 13/32 and again it is still showing orange but it is clear sailing. Not many cars at all. God knew what we needed. Although the even stranger thing happened when I got on 32. So Randall’s cell phone had died the night before at the hospital so it was turned off and in the back of the car.  All of a sudden down 32 I get a text from Randall with a little picture of a yellow moped and “55”. That’s it. I of course look in the rear view mirror to see him with his head hung over in the back seat (they don’t want you near an air bag after this surgery).  Which I was doing 55 as that road is bumpy for the first 5 miles or so where it needs to be paved and for whatever reason they never did it when they did the rest of it.  I am thinking I am surprised he found the yellow moped on his phone and what would this have been about if it was an old message that for some reason I just got a 6:15pm.  So I ask him about it later when we are home and he doesn’t know although the yellow moped he says sounds vaguely familiar. So I take his phone and check his text thread to me. NOTHING.  No message like that.  No message to me since the day before.  Bizarre! And maybe it was just to re-iterrate take it slower and just let the cars pass you on that road, which I usually do anyways. People drive crazy!!

LAST UPDATE IN RANDALL

Texted Jane today and asked her about Randall’s pain level. He is home now and seems to be progressing well. Thank you so much for your prayer support. They are so grateful as well!! 💕 Following is her last post.

Yes for the most part. Can't get it lower than a 5 but it is manageable to there. Good up here and there cause not taking pain meds every 3 hours. Stretching it out. Home health RN came today. Said his incision looked great. She listened to lungs and heard no fluid so that's good. Was concerned about that cause of a new pain that developed to left side if chest on Thursday morning that was worse when tried to take deeper breaths. They think it is nerve pain in the chest. Getting g a little better each day. But he gets up and showers every day, walks and goes outside and goes up and down steps a few times. RN said she thought he was doing well.

UPDATE OCTOBER 19th

Not sure what happened to the text I sent Tuesday night but we did come home late that evening. Pain control was rough first 36 hours and is still up and down but we have the medicine combos figured out better now. Each day should be better moving forward. Thank you for all your continued prayers.

We came home last night. Last night was rough with opinion. My group text must not have went out right. You are the 4th person to ask. 😊 to tired right now to send another one. Maybe tomorrow. 4 hours sleep maybe in last 36 hours. Pain control a real maze but we are making it hour by hour. Think we got some strategies figured out now. Been talking with nurse today. Love you. Feel better.

Just got this from my niece. Thank you for your continued prayers for pain relief and rest for them both. 💕

Still trying to get out of here. Pain meds were not sufficient overnight and they have adjusted twice. At a strong 6 and don't want to travel at that level. They just added another dose and we are waiting an hour to see if drops more. Pray for pain control with this dosage and clear paths home please. Thank you. ❤

He has met all criteria to be released tomorrow as long as pain pills hold overnight and tomorrow. I expect them to. He's on the same thing he was released on from Obici after his cancer surgery and return to ER in June and he told me the cancer surgery was more painful than this one. I will work tomorrow and go to hospital around 2:30 and should be able to bring him home. Traffic was horrible tonight. Every option to get home was backed up so took awhile. Praying for clear path tomorrow so it won't take so long for him.

Just got here. Been at work since 6am. He's sleeping. But I see the pain IV pump is off so he is on pill pain management as planned for today. And I see the wires have been pulled that were still in his chest. I can tell he has been nauseous due to the cold cloths on his neck and forehead. I will know more once he wakes up.

And by the way it was 4:15pm in the afternoon before Dr Unger finished his 730am surgery and came out to speak to the family. Dillon pointed out how many things had to libe up for Randall to end up with Dr Cooke. But how simple for our God to handle.

Then you also have the day he had his mild heart attack. First off that it was only MILD when he had a 95% blockage in the artery known for the widow maker heart attacks!! Let alone he was home alone and it hit him when he was walking and was half way down our driveway. He managed to get back to the shop and thats where Dillon found him when he just so happened to come over to get the lawnmower. It also happened between noon and 1 which is when I am in the break room at work for lunch and have a cell signal. No signal in my area where I actually work. So I was able to get the phone call from Dillon. And was able to push Randall with Dillon that he had to go to the ER. See he thought it was just acid reflux.

God actively intervenes in the course of our lives daily for those who are his children. Live it!! Speak it!!

He's napping so I will take this time to share some God's in control happenings with you.

When he got bumped to Thursday afternoon that put him 2nd surgery of day vs 1st. About 1pm we were informed Dr Unger was still tied up with his 1st surgery that started at 730am so they were changing Doctors. We got a Dr Cooke who we had not met. Nurse showed us picture online and went to show us his reviews but oh he doesn't have any yet cause he is obviously new to Sentara. Randall was somewhat concerned but resigned to do it. I told him God is in control and for some reason this is necessary in his will. So while we were waiting I looked him up. Watched an interview he did for Sentara and that was good. When he came in to meet us and make sure we were OK with moving forward he was very personable. Even more so than Dr Unger. After pleasantries he told us based on his review there was an artery that had NOT been flagged for bypass that was in his opinion 60% blocked and needed to be

bypassed. And that in fact one of the three that had been flagged was not as bad and already had a natural bypass route in place. He said once he got into the surgery he would be able to tell more.

I told Randall after the doctor left, well there you go. That's why!!

When Dr Cooke came out after the surgery I asked him about this and in fact he did bypass this one he identified and did not have to bypass one of the 3 originally marked for bypass. So it was still only a triple. God is good!!

Yesterday after the rough day in ICU Randall's day shift nurse was familiar with ACM Arnold Chairi Malformation. This NEVER happens as it is very rare. Her mother has it and had the decompression brain surgery in 2016 at UNC Chapel Hill.

Just got this from Jane. What a praise!! 😃

He's eating meals starting last night. Pain at a 5. Walked with nurse without walker this morning. Has pain pump til tomorrow then switch to pills. Talking about discharge late Tuesday.
