For many reasons, this is one of the finest Christian books I have ever read.
First, Nabeel reminds me of the Apostle Paul in that he was a 100% committed, righteous Muslim until Christ captured him and he became a 100% committed Christian believer. Whatever he did, he did 1000%.
Secondly, his book shows us that there are loving, righteous Muslim families who are trapped in a faith that will condemn them to hell. It also shows how hard it is to convert to Christianity if you have been part of one of those loving families. You have to be willing to forsake all for Christ (or to be forsaken by all).
Next, it systematically gives us the apologetic tools to win Muslims to Christ, by describing what their faith is built upon, then reminding us what our faith is built upon. It makes apologetics very approachable for us all. Even though we are saved by faith, it is not wrong to know how to defend Christianity historically. To be able to say *why we believe.
Finally, the story is just that good. Nabeel died of cancer at a very young age. His race is run. But his book can help us run our own race better!
If anyone ever wants to do this book as a group at Starbucks or somewhere, I am in. I would read it again.
Also, much of the story took place right here. Nabeel’s father was in the American Navy. Nabeel went to Princess Anne High School and ODU.
