In the beginning, on day six, God built His perfect alphabetic, consonant-vowel language into Adam and Eve, and that language, later called "Hebrew," never changed, even through the Babel rebellion some 1800 years after creation. At Babel, He mixed the linguistic components of His original language to form 70 or more new non-alphabetic, oral-only languages, thus forcing the speakers of each to disperse as He had instructed. These Babel languages then became the origins of all ancient non-alphabetic languages and all non-Hebrew languages in the world. Through time, in their interactions with Hebrews, speakers of these other languages perceived the greater quality of Hebrew, with its perfect alphabetic design, for their communications, and many began to incorporate its alphabetic structure into their languages, as did the descendants of Japheth (Yepheth), eventually developing ancient Greek. Thus, with the continuation of Hebrew, and its Aramaic descendant, and the perfect alphabetic Greek of the New Testament, God perfectly preserved, from day six of the creation and through the next 4,300 years, all that He had chosen to inscribe of His perfect and inescapable design for all that exists.
While reading about the Waorani language (the one Elisabeth Elliott learned), it is a linguistic isolate, meaning it resembles no other language on earth. It has only been captured in a written form since Elisabeth Elliott’s time (1950’s).
People who worked on capturing it said it has no pure past tense but uses a time related clause to show when one event occurred before another. Fascinating stuff.
