Our sleep patterns got a bit off so I found myself on this first Saturday of my distance Bible study in I Corinthians with my best friend (Kimberly) finishing up my notes on I Corinthians 1:1-17 instead of going to breakfast with Noel.
We have decided to take about half a chapter a week to study deeply, then compare on Saturday to see what we have found.
I thought it might interest a few of you just to see my highlight paragraph. We are trying to study without commentaries, just letting the Word speak for itself (we both do use the Greek Interlinear, too. Thanks Dr. Caughill, and three fun years of New Testament Greek at Tab!).
So here you go--this blessed my socks off!:
"V. 10, The phrase “speak the same thing” is key here. This is a diverse body of believers and obviously Paul is not asking them to all have the same personality. But on some things they must agree. Same mind (the power of considering and judging soberly, calmly and impartially) and the same judgment (the definition of judgment is very formal, not a snap judgment or half-baked judgment). From Ross Douthat’s Bad Religion I am learning that pagans almost all “speak the same thing” because there has been a century of writing that seeks to discredit God’s Word. Why don’t we defend it just as well, shoulder to shoulder?"
This is a helpful aid to study Kimberly just sent me. Please let me know if it helps anyone.

Excellent words here Mary. I’ve always admired people that studied. I find when I study God’s word writing thoughts down help me. Thank you for sharing.
I was remembering other times when Saturday morning Bible study has been very precious to me. Around 20 years ago, when so many ladies’ groups studied Bible books with Beth Moore’s thick workbooks (before she got all controversial), I used to hit the old Shore Drive Starbucks right after 6 AM on Saturday and study 3-4 hours to prepare for Bible study discussions. Obviously, each of us only shared the tip of the iceberg from what we found in our one hour study. That much time dedicated to one chapter produced huge benefits for me (and a lot of joy from just listening to God’s voice as He inspired every word of a passage).
