I just finished reading this book for the second time and thus the choice of special for today.
Elisabeth Elliott wrote this in 1956, months after her husband (and four others) were martyred. This edition has several updates since then on the Waodani people, as they call themselves (Auca was the name the nearby Quichua tribe gave them at the time).
I have rarely read such a moving testimony to God's grace in modern times. The five missionaries died just two years before I was born.
If you like to read, you will not be able to put this book down!
P.S. Donna Reynolds met Elisabeth Elliott at her church in Jacksonville, FL and got to ask her a question after she spoke there!!! How cool!
Mary, my wonderful husband found the movie on YOUTUBE last night after Church. We watched as long as we could before turning in as it was getting late. I am sure we will pick back up tonight. Yes, we met Elisabeth Elliott in person and she was humble and funny as we chuckled over a few things while she was signing my book. I had an immediate adoration for her as my sister in Christ! We must have given our movie to one of the kids, so I am thankful Craig found it on YOUTUBE and I hope you get to watch it soon. The song you sang for us yesterday in service was Beautiful. Thank you for that!
This book is in my reading list. I’ve been listening to her radio program since 2019 ever since I found about her.
Beautiful special number today Mary and it took us back. She autographed a copy of her book the “The Savage My Kinsman”. The movie based on the book is called “End of the Spear” 2005. Amazing story of loss, tragedy and ultimate life changing events for a missionary wife and an entire tribe of people that has multiplied to bring God glory even today!
I read this several years ago and I have never forgotten their story.
