When the Bible Feels Like God’s Voice Speaking …

Brother Landreth is currently setting up a Tab Connect Blog Space. While he does that, I just had to share what I saw while reading the book of John this morning. I already shared it with my bestie but this is just too much joy to keep closehold . . .

I am remembering C.S. Lewis saying we should read a great book at least three times, in youth, middle age, and old age, because as we grow, we read the book differently (not that truth changes but that we grow to understand more as we age).

I have heard the Bible described, like Jesus, as very God and very man.  Every word absolutely God-breathed but planned by the Holy Spirit to fully utilize the lives, abilities, and personalities of the men writing it. Not trance-writing at all, as I thought it was when I was a child.

Knowing that, I think I see God using John in his old age to write the life of Christ from a perspective that has known Him as a best friend when John was a teen, as truth poured from a Holy Spirit flame as John pastored the Ephesian church in middle age, and as a constant companion from loneliness as John was abandoned on Patmos as an old man, given the time and space to write five books of Scripture while finding the Triune God an ever present comfort to his soul!

John is becoming my all time favorite book of the Bible!
