Update on Dad

Well, we head back to Wisconsin in the morning to drop Joey off before his job tomorrow evening.

It has been a really unusual vacation. A lot of plans cancelled, a lot of waiting around, a lot of reading while waiting around, a lot of changes to my Dad’s medical plan.

Surgery was Tuesday morning, right on schedule. My brother and sister in law did arrive in time for it so I was not alone, but they had to leave right afterward to work. I stayed with my dad for the six hours after that as he had to keep his leg completely flat since they has gone in through an artery to emplace the pacemaker in his heart.

Next day I was supposed to pick up Dad upon discharge and stay overnight with him. But his blood pressure soared (he had been off those meds for four days) so they kept him an additional day for med adjustments. I visited him with my brother and sister in law, then they joined us for dinner at Logan’s.

Today he was released right at noon. I got him and drove him home. All week I have been on a system of three interstates that cross right by the hospital, though it is only 11 minutes from our hotel, with lots of left exits and drivers who go 85 miles an hour in a 70mph zone. It is hard to remember living here 50 years ago. And God graciously kept me through it all (one of His best gifts ever is GPS, LOL!).

I think my best minute was seeing Dad’s joy when Terry walked into his apartment. She is 90 and they fussed and fussed over his discharge directions all afternoon because Terry wants so desperately to be able to help, though she is frail and uses a walker herself. He will need Home Health for a few days. This is even beyond what my siblings can do. But so sweet to see how Dad and Terry were so disoriented for six days while apart and so happy to be reunited. She is only his second girlfriend ever and the widow of my mom’s cousin, so already a lifelong friend.

We will sleep well tonight. Please pray for Dad to adjust well to the pacemaker and the med changes that were made. And thanks for the prayers already offered.

Great morning ,

Thank you for the update on your dad; sounds good & sounds like he will do just fine with the pacemaker . My Mother had one & it made such a difference in her quality of life & she did everything she normally did. I've been praying for your dad as well as you & your family. Praying for a safe return home to the 757 as well as you getting some much needed rest .
