Earthquake Victims
Not all news services provide on the scene reporting so perhaps not everyone is aware of the 7.7 earthquake in Myanmar today, along the border with Thailand.
I walked into our breakroom to get coffee at 5 AM and saw initial reports on CNN. At that point it was one person dead. When I got back to my desk and put the BBC feed on one screen while I worked on the other, I saw buildings tumbling and realized the death count was going to go up by a lot.
I also began praying for our missionaries and their churches, the Kims in Myanmar and the Joneses in Thailand. Pastor has taught us well to care for our brothers and sisters around the world.
As the day went on, my heart began to break. Aftershocks came and people rushed out of shopping malls and apartment buildings. Each one of those panicked faces is made in God’s image and is very precious to Him. And both of those countries are majority Buddhist. Our missionaries labor against such odds.
But God . . . let’s entreat Him to do a mighty work, even amidst this horror.
P.S. I understand Amanda Baker made contact with the Joneses today and that they and their church are fine and accounted for.
Prayer for the families who lost their love ones, and yes Kathi thankful for the BWM missionaries that was not hurt.🙏
