Some Thoughts After the Charlie Kirk Memorial

This is not exactly a prayer request. It really does not fit neatly in any of our categories. But it is heavy on my heart right now and I am praying about it.

There are vast numbers of people in our country who will never watch a Charlie Kirk video or any part of his memorial. They have believed what they were told—that he is a racist misogynist who hates LGBTQ people. And they are some of the people who most need the spiritual awakening that may have been started at Charlie’s death.

I consider some of them friends, even close friends. But through lack of (Bible) knowledge they will perish eternally. Maybe we can get them to our church. But maybe not. Because they see us as just like Charlie. Someone has succeeded very well at inoculating them against gospel witness by labeling it racist, sexist, and anti-LGBTQ.

Only a miracle of God will tear down some of these strongholds.

I want to tell you what a peer of Joey’s said. He was our neighbor as a child. His parents came from India. They were both doctors and kind Hindu people. This young man is a doctor now. He hates Christians. Every time I say something about the LORD Jesus on my Facebook page he mockingly calls me a hater. He said that perhaps Charlie’s death was a stunt to make TPUSA ten times bigger than it had been. That he agreed to die in a plan to make that happen.

It will not be long till someone is saying Charlie is not really dead. That it was all a trick somehow.

Charlie was a mere man, saved by grace like we are. But do you kind of hear echoes of what was said around Christ’s death (and still is said)? That He didn’t really die but revived in the tomb. That someone stood in for Him at the last minute as a body double. So many twisted explanations instead of the simple truth that God did a miracle. That the Resurrection was a miracle.

I believe Charlie’s triumphant memorial service was another kind of a miracle. God giving us a second (or fiftieth) chance. And my heart breaks that so many are coming up with twisted explanations of what just happened here. Some are calling it an opportunistic five hour political rally, as though party affiliation was checked on the way in. I actually wish the House and Senate Minority leaders would have attended. I am sure they would have been welcomed in that front row!
