Because it might help someone with a Jewish friend
I think most of us realize that antisemitic/Jew hating incidents are up over 100% these last couple of years, mostly due to people believing that the country of Israel has been called Palestine all along and that the Israelis dispossessed the Palestinian people to get it in 1948.
I have mentioned I follow a Jewish historian on Substack. I engage people in her comments section. My intent is a belief that reading their Old Testament Scriptures, the Holy Spirit can light a fire inside them for the New Testament and the Gospel.
Of course, when I do this, showing respect for Godโs chosen people is super important. Nobody was ever won through rudeness or arrogance.
I wrote something today that got a lot of positive responses from Jewish readers of her blog. I will include it here, in case it is helpful:
โI read you for history, current events that may not show up in the WSJ, and for a connection with what we Christians call the Old Testament. We came from you (were originally regarded as a Jewish cult) and just because we believe the New Testament is the Word of God, too, does not negate the reverence with which we all regard the Old! Shalom, my friend!โ
